Helping People Stay Safe and Informed about COVID-19 Vaccines

March 15, 2021

Over the last year, our teams have been working to connect people around the world with authoritative COVID-19 information, and to help support the businesses and communities most impacted by the pandemic. We’ve repeatedly seen the Instagram community show up for each other during these challenging times. From doctors using their platform to keep people informed on the latest precautions, to accounts that raised money for those most in need. We are inspired every day by the ways people are connecting and supporting one another during the pandemic.

To help people find credible COVID-19 information, today we are introducing our COVID-19 Information Center globally, helping connect people to more information about the pandemic from health authorities, directly on Instagram. In the US, UK, France, Germany, India and Chile specifically, this new feature helps people access reliable information from trusted health experts based on their location, including: who is eligible for the vaccine, information about prevention from trusted health organizations, and content disproving common vaccine myths. In the weeks to come, we will add more information to help people find out where they can get vaccinated, the number of COVID-19 cases in their area, and more.

Starting today, we’ll show notifications at the top of people’s feeds to direct people to the new COVID-19 Information Center, so they can quickly access credible information directly on Instagram.

We’re also introducing a new Stories sticker in the coming weeks to help people show their support and share accurate information about the COVID-19 vaccine. The sticker will connect people directly to the Information Center.

If posts on Instagram contain claims that violate our COVID-19 and vaccine policies, we remove them. For posts that have not been debunked by health experts, we apply informational labels about vaccines and COVID-19 generally. These labels direct people to more credible information from health experts including the WHO and CDC. We are now evolving these labels, to provide more context at the post level.

Making sure people are safe, connected and have access to credible information will continue to be our focus as the pandemic evolves. We will continue to provide regular updates via about.fb.com/coronavirus. For latest news and information, please visit the World Health Organization.
