Since Instagram launched Threads in July 2023, it has gained popularity around the world by inspiring ideas that bring people together. Threads is a text-first app where you can share your thoughts, join conversations based on your interests, and engage with growing communities.
So whether you’re trying to connect with friends, find new communities to engage with, or are looking to improve your content and grow your audience as a creator, discover the many features that can enhance your Threads experience.
Use search on Threads to find conversations about interests you care about. Your keywords will help you find individual posts and relevant profiles that are related to your topic. To make it easier to find specific posts, you can use the tool to refine your search by profile and date range. You can also see trending topics (only available in US and Japan, with plans to expand to more countries) and top conversations so you can jump in and join an ongoing discussion. And if you’re a big sports fan, search for your favorite NBA, WNBA & MLB teams to see scores for live and recent games, and times for when games are starting soon.
Tags are another great way to search for content most related to your interests so other people can discover your posts and join the conversation too. When you start to add a tag to your post, you can view popular existing tags, or you can start your own.
Whether it’s keeping up with the trending topics or discovering reactions to the latest news, tags make it easy for you to follow conversations in real time and go deeper into the things you care about. You can also use Topic Tags to categorize and link the topic (like a hashtag). Create one on your own post, or just tap on a tag to see what others are saying about the same topic.
How to create a tag:
Threads doesn’t contain you to the written word, but you should always include text in your posts. You can also express yourself with the spoken word too with voice Threads, which will create a text-based transcript of your audio. Share your tone and personality more fully when you record voice notes. And don’t worry, you can still combine voice with text and tags to show up in search.
How to start a post or reply using voice Threads:
You can show even more of your personality with media reuse to create your own meme and share your ideas and fresh takes with trending images. Easily reshare the post, or add a GIF using the icon available when you start a new post, and you will be able to keep the credit to the original poster.
How to add GIFs:
*Note You can only add 1 GIF per post and once a GIF is added, no other media can be added.
Polls were among the first features we introduced as a way to spark a conversation on Threads. With polls, you can invite others to weigh in on the topics you care about.
How to add Polls:
*Note: You can add up to 4 poll options and polls end in 24 hours.
Made a typo? No problem. Threads now allows you to edit posts within 15 minutes of posting. So whether you want to fix something or add that last insightful thought, you can relax knowing your updates are just right. You can also keep multiple drafts on your profile and save all of your topics until you’re ready to post.
How To: To view and edit your posts, click on the account button and see your posts under the ‘Threads’ tab. Click the ‘...’ to the right of your post to find the ‘Edit’ button. And remember – you have just 15 minutes to edit.
If you’re not looking to post in real-time, you can schedule a post for later by choosing the date and time you want the post to publish – you can keep, edit, delete a scheduled post that is in your drafts folder.
You can keep the conversation going by cross-posting your Threads post to Instagram. You can also customize the post with stickers, GIFs, music, and background colors to make the topic even more interesting. To share your post on your Instagram story or feed, just click on the below it.
Feeds keep you connected to the topics and profiles you care about most. Your ‘For You’ feed is personalized to you based on how you engage with various authors and content topics. Your Following feed is a collection of profiles you follow and like to keep up with. You can further customize the content you see by creating a custom feed, so you can curate the people and topics that interest you the most.
Tailor your For You feed by controlling and adjusting what you’d like to see, such as:
Content you engage with:
Your “like” activity is used to provide similar content to match what you like or are interested in, and what you see in your For You feed is personalized to you based on a number of signals, such as accounts and posts you have interacted with in the past on both Threads and Instagram.
To create a custom feed:
You can swipe between the For You feed, Following feed, and your custom feeds at any time to keep up with whatever subject you’re most interested in at that moment.
