Director, Product Marketing, Shopping

On Instagram, shopping is one of the many ways that people connect with each other and the brands and products they love. With over 25 millions businesses using Instagram and a strong community of content creators and influencers, people on Instagram can discover new looks and get inspired before making a purchase. Instagram is looking for a Director of Product Marketing to support people, creators and businesses who use Instagram for shopping. This person will be responsible for formulating our business strategy, managing our go-to-market plans and coordinating a cross-functional team to bring great solutions to the community. The ideal candidate will come from the e-Commerce industry and have a multi-disciplinary background — including business strategy, product marketing and analytical skills — and be passionate about Instagram and the retail industry. This is a full-time position.


  • Help establish and scale the Instagram shop tab, making it the most engaging and entertaining place to shop
  • Partner with product management, data science, research, design and engineering to define the product strategy and roadmap for the shop tab
  • Collaborate with consumer marketing, business marketing, category management, editorial, communications and partnerships teams to define the business strategy for the shop tab
  • Develop business processes for managing complex retail moments such as holiday
  • Lead market and competitive assessment, and be the trusted advocate of the customer by surfacing qualitative and quantitative insights to shape product direction and ensure product-market fit
  • Assess and prioritize expansion and new business opportunities
  • Catch unanticipated issues that arise along the way and see them through to resolution
  • Provide frequent reporting and updates to executives

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business strategy, product marketing or product management experience in the e-Commerce industry
  • 5+ years of people management experience with a proven track record building diverse and high-functioning teams
  • Understanding of merchandising, browse and search-based shopping experiences, personalization and e-commerce business processes
  • Proven experience in simplifying complex concepts
  • Demonstrated experience creating frameworks to evaluate problems and present a recommendation for how to proceed
  • Experience setting strategic direction and executing operational and go-to-market plans with input and execution from multiple teams including senior executives
  • Demonstrated experience driving and executing global projects
  • Communication skills and demonstrated experience influencing a cross-functional team
  • BA/BS degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a consulting, product strategy or equivalent function for an online advertising, media, e-commerce or technology company
  • Knowledge of the creator and influencer ecosystem
  • MBA
  • Experience working with or in support of diverse communities
