Technical Program Manager, Instagram

Instagram is looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to build a safe, and fun product experience for amazing innovators. As a TPM on Instagram’s team, you will work closely with engineers, data scientists and product teams to build roadmaps, create frameworks and implement new technologies that empower your teams to iterate quickly. You will work horizontally to balance the concerns of safety, parental supervision, and content discovery in order to evolve how Instagram connects young people with their friends and helps them engage with their interests. You will work with multiple cross functional teams to create impact for Instagram by enabling the product team to move fast and lead various quality, efficiency, privacy and scalability initiatives. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, adept at collaborating cross-functionally, has experience with large scale systems, and familiarity working with machine learning or content ranking models. This is a constantly evolving space, and the TPM is expected to be flexible and pivot based on the problems we are trying to solve. This person will be highly organized, productive, poised, and able to thrive in high-pressure, time-sensitive scenarios.


  • Articulate the technology, requirements, goals and milestones for your team
  • Develop and manage cross-functional programs in a matrix organization covering a range of areas, facilitating relationships across teams within Instagram and Facebook to manage dependencies and optimize resources
  • Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions, remove roadblocks, and deliver on high-impact projects that align with the company mission and goals with a focus on efficiency, performance, and quality
  • Collaborate with engineering and product management partners to define roadmap and long-term strategy for your team’s domain
  • Roadmap and communicate program updates, risks and new opportunities to leaders and stakeholders, identify dependencies and perform risk/change management on projects
  • Drive accountability and ownership in a fast-paced environment through project planning and strong interpersonal skills
  • Develop and manage end-to-end programs and ensure on-time delivery

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience
  • Experience delivering tech programs or products from inception to delivery
  • Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope
  • Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership
  • Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products
  • Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a consumer focused technology company
  • Experience building 0-1 consumer products, platform/ecosystem products, or marketplaces
  • Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership
